Day 1 • Gettysburg, PA: We travel to Gettysburg, PA and begin our tour with a visit to General Lee’s Headquarters Museum. This museum is located in the same house that General Robert E. Lee occupied during the battle of Gettysburg. Next we visit the Gettysburg Museum & Visitor Center featuring the film A New Birth of Freedom and the breathtaking Cyclorama painting of Pickett’s charge. Then we meet our guide and tour the Gettysburg Battlefield. This evening, we enjoy dinner at the Dobbin House Tavern - the oldest building in Gettysburg and a station on the Underground Railroad. (D)
Day 2 • Home: We begin the day by touring the Eisenhower National Historic Site - the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The farm served the President as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. Enjoy a guided tour on the main floor, explore the second floor on your own, and take time to browse the gift shop. Next we visit the David Wills House, where Abraham Lincoln stayed the night before his famous Gettysburg Address. The Historic Shriver House Museum is our final stop. This museum shows the perspective of civilians during the Civil War by telling the story of the Shriver family. We then journey homeward for an evening return feeling enriched by our new understanding of Civil War history. (B)
